Bengaluru: Colourful bamboo plants will adorn the historic Cubbon Park in Bengaluru soon. The Department of Horticulture has already initiated the project at the favourite spot of environment lovers to plant local and foreign bamboo species.
The new breeds of the bamboos will be planted in the same place where the older bamboo plants vanished after flowering.
Bamboo plants that added beauty to Cubbon Park, died away after they flowered recently. So, now the Department of Horticulture has decided to replace them with local and foreign breeds of bamboos. A team of experts was also sent to Kerala to select suitable breeds of bamboos.
In the coming days, the Forest Department would initiate an operation to clear the dead bamboo thicket. After this, the Department of Horticulture will plant new bamboo saplings, said the senior officials.
The department has also planned to use the old bamboo to create creative artwork at the park. The Shiplakala Academy has been roped in to help with this project. “Within a few months, the people of capital city can expect some great initiatives by the government to add more beauty to the Cubbon Park”, said an official of the park.
