On Friendship Day, the Cubbon Park Walkers’ Association (CPWA) in Bengaluru paid tribute to the victims of the recent natural disaster that ravaged parts of Karnataka and Kerala. Held at Cubbon Park, the event saw around 50 participants, including children, gather to honor those affected. The attendees held placards depicting the severe landslides in Wayanad, reflecting their solidarity and compassion.
Following the tribute, participants exchanged handshakes, reinforcing their collective spirit of friendship. The CPWA plans to raise funds for relief efforts in Wayanad and is prepared to assist with rescue operations if needed. The association aims to mobilize donations from its members to support the victims through the Kerala Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Members have expressed readiness to visit the affected areas for direct assistance if required. This effort follows their previous support for victims of the Kodagu landslides in 2018.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently announced plans to construct 100 houses for landslide victims and has pledged continued support for Kerala. He assured Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of Karnataka’s unwavering assistance during this crisis.
As rescue and relief operations in Wayanad extend into their seventh day, the State Health Ministry reports a death toll of 308, with 220 bodies recovered and 180 individuals still missing as of August 2.
Friendship Day, celebrated on the first Sunday of August, is recognized in various countries including India and Malaysia, emphasizing global solidarity and support.
