Bengaluru: The State government will soon set up cybercrime police stations in every sub-division to deal effectively with the increasing number of cases, said Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Tuesday.
While inaugurating the seventh cybercrime police station on the premises of the Inspector-General of Police office on Millers Road, Parameshwara said that incidents of cybercrime are on the rise with criminals using newer technologies to get their hands on sensitive information such as bank account details.
In order to effectively crack down on this, it is necessary to have detection and prevention systems installed in police stations at the divisional level, the minister said.
The CID will provide logistics support and supervise cases handled by staff of the cyber crime police. In the past, only instances where a victim lost Rs. 50,000 and above were routed to the cybercrime police. However, now, all cases will be handled by the cybercrime police.
Admitting that the law related to cybercrime in the State was limited; the minister said the Home Department will update itself to remain relevant.
To a question on vacancies in the department, he said the State has only 8,000 vacancies. The government will fill these vacancies in three years, he said
