The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has confirmed that four damaged bearings on the GRT flyover near the Hosur bus stand will be replaced, with no signs of any structural failure. According to Regional Officer Virendar Sambyal, the necessary repairs will be completed within 30 days.

The bearing failure caused a lateral displacement on the structure, disrupting traffic flow from Saturday afternoon. As a precaution, vehicles travelling from Krishnagiri to Bengaluru were restricted from using the three affected lanes on the six-lane flyover. However, movement in the opposite direction—from Bengaluru to Krishnagiri—continued without hindrance.

On Sunday, a joint inspection was carried out by officials including Virendar Sambyal, Project Director Ramesh, Krishnagiri Collector C. Dinesh Kumar, and Superintendent of Police P. Thangadurai.

Sambyal noted that although the flyover has been in use since 2002, consistent heavy braking by multi-axle trucks over the years likely compromised the bearings. These components will be monitored for the next 48 hours. If no further issues are detected, light vehicles will be permitted on one lane heading toward Bengaluru, while the other two lanes will facilitate Krishnagiri-bound traffic.

Collector Dinesh Kumar stated that a temporary traffic diversion plan has been put in place. Vehicles from Salem are rerouted via Dharmapuri, Palacode, and Rayakottai, while traffic from Krishnagiri is sent through Shoolagiri and Uddanapalli.

Meanwhile, travelers like D. Karthikeyan faced long delays, taking nearly three hours to return home from a simple family outing.
