Bengaluru: Reports have surfaced that Sandalwood actor “Challenging Star” Darshan’s fans allegedly physically assaulted a police officer on Sunday, February 16 night.
Devaraj D R of the Jnanabharathi Police Station is the policeman who was attacked.
According to reports, thousands of Darshan’s fans had gathered near his residence in R R Nagar on Sunday night to wish him on his birthday. As the crowd had gone out of control, a huge contingent of police personnel were deployed to control the crowd had reportedly resorted to mild lathi-charge.
At this point in time, some of Darshan’s fans allegedly pelted stones at the police. A stone hit Devaraj, injuring his right eye and nose. He was immediately rushed to the SSNMC Super Specialty Hospital where he underwent a surgery.
Taking the issue into cognizance, the R R Nagar Police has filed a case against the actor’s fans under suitable sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to police sources, no one has been arrested yet.
A TOI report states that a nearby resident’s car was also vandalized and that the resident claimed that every year, during the actor’s birthday, they tend to have a sleepless night due to loud music. The neighbour also alleged that every time, Darshan’s fans vandalize things during the birthday celebrations.
Meanwhile, responding to queries from the media about the incident, the actor on Tuesday, February 18, while at an event, said, “Even I have CCTV footage. Fans who had come to wish me on my birthday had no wrong intentions. I am not sure about the incident or who has done this.”
