Davanagere: In a shocking incident, Magadi villagers in Jagalur taluk limits burnt down a leopard which attacked their livestock, mainly goats. The incident came to light on the night of April 17.
Predator leopard entered a lake water supply pipe after trapping its prey, a goat. It stayed inside for a while to devour the meat and to hoodwink passersby in fear.
Villagers, who learnt of the leopard attack, closed the ends of the pipe and poured highly inflammable liquids like petrol and diesel.
Finally, they set leopard on fire to avenge losses suffered.
Malur villagers had resorted to killing a leopard in a similar manner 5 years ago.
Wild predators come in search of prey and enter human habitat on few occasions during summer months for their own survival. In this case, the unlucky leopard turned the hunted one in the hands of merciless villagers.
