Davangere: In the city which is famous for “Benne Dose”, an unusual trend of fake gold sale has been on the rise. On similar lines, some of miscreants were found selling fake stones which is said to be worth of only Rs 200, in the name of ‘Nagamani’ (a stone which according to Indian mythology is hidden in the hood of a cobra). This mythological stone whose existence is not verified, are said to be priceless.
This notorious gang was trapped by the Davangere Police and put behind the bars.
The gang members are Karibasappa, Kumar, Suresh, Praveen and Shivkumar.
The gang had priced the fake stone at Rs 35 Crore and had reportedly convinced a person named Anagodu Karibasappa to pay Rs 10 Lakh with Rs 50000 as advance.
The accused Shivkumar apparently concocted a story during interrogation that his father had brought this ‘Nagamani.’ He added that from the day he brought it home, problems had piled up and his father had gone into a state of depression. Hence, he had decided to sell the stone to Anagodu Karibasappa for Rs 10 Lakh.
The accused had also told Karibasappa to offer pooja to the stone.
Karibasappa, was suspicious about the stone. The gang had also told him that after paying the advance and complete amount, will he get the “Nagamani.”
Karibasappa soon became aware of the racket and filed a complaint in the Davangere Rural Police station. Based on this complaint, a team headed by PSI Kiran, launched a raid and arrested the five.
