Bengaluru: DCM, Bengaluru Development minister Dr G Parameshwara reviewed the monsoon preparedness of the BBMP recently. During a three-hour long meeting, he discussed the prevailing situation and the actions that need to be taken. Rural Development and Panchayat Raj minister Krishna Byre Gowda and BBMP commissioner N Manjunath Prasad were also present for the meeting.
The BBMP authorities informed the DCM that 246 low lying areas have been identified across the city from where waterlogging is often reported. As per the experts’ suggestion, the underground drainages of these areas have been repaired to ensure that flood water will not enter the residences.
They also informed that eight teams have been formed exclusively to the suck the water out of low lying areas in the event of any flooding. These teams have been provided with the latest pump sets.
According to the authorities, out of 840-kilometres of stormwater drainage, 400 kilometres have already been cleared and water will not clog in any place. “The remaining 440-kilometres of drainage will be cleared before June 1,” they added.
The BBMP forest cell officers informed the DCM that 21 teams have been formed to physically check all the trees in the city. This verification process is being carried out to ensure that tree branches will not fall during the rains, causing loss to human life and vehicles.
Authorities from the BBMP also informed that their control room will function around the clock with senior officers as in-charges for the operations at their respective zones.
After the review meeting, DCM Parameshwara urged the BBMP officials to ensure that the city will not face any problems during the monsoon. He also directed them to ensure the free flow of water everywhere.
