Bengaluru: The Mumbai Police Crime Branch’s cyber police have arrested a 34-year-old man from Bengaluru for allegedly issuing death threats to Minister Aditya Thackeray who is also the son of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
The threats, which Aditya received through WhatsApp on December 8, accused him of ‘murdering’ actor Sushant Singh Rajput, who died by suicide last year.
‘You killed Sushant Singh Rajput,’ stated the first message, which featured insults. The accused then made three phone calls to Aditya, informed the police. When he did not receive a response, he used WhatsApp to send death threats.
A FIR in this regard has been filed under the IPC’s Sections 500 (defamation), 506 (2) (if the threat is to cause death or grievous bodily harm), and Section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) and the IT Act’s Section 67 (punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form).
On December 18, a team of cyber officers (west region) arrested the accused Jaysingh Rajput in Bengaluru based on technical evidence.
