Delhi Police Accused of Intimidation in Shaheen Bagh Incident
A complaint filed with Bengaluru’s Sampigehalli police accuses officers from Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh police station of unlawful conduct during a visit to Nadeem Khan’s residence on Saturday. According to the complaint, the station house officer (SHO) and colleagues informed Khan of an FIR registered against him at 12:48 pm and insisted he accompany them to Delhi.
The complainant alleges the officials lacked proper documentation such as a summons, notice, or warrant and resorted to intimidation over a five-hour standoff to coerce Khan into leaving with them. The request seeks an FIR against the Delhi police for criminal intimidation, trespassing, and misuse of authority.
Khan, the national general secretary of the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), is associated with human rights advocacy. An officer from Sampigehalli police confirmed receiving the complaint but clarified that no FIR had been registered yet. “We are conducting a preliminary inquiry to determine the next steps,” the officer said.
This incident has drawn attention to procedural lapses and the treatment of individuals in law enforcement processes, raising concerns over jurisdictional overreach and the safeguarding of civil rights.
