A delivery agent arrested for allegedly entering a woman’s apartment in Bengaluru’s Electronic City and exposing himself after claiming he needed to use the bathroom has approached a court seeking bail.
A rural Bengaluru court on Friday directed the Karnataka government to file its objections to the bail plea by July 28, while the matter remains under judicial consideration.
Incident occurred during document delivery
According to the police complaint, the accused, Maheshkumar Patil, visited a sixth-floor apartment in Electronic City on the morning of July 17 to deliver a rent renewal document to a 30-year-old tenant.
The woman reportedly went to retrieve her mobile phone to provide the required one-time password (OTP) for the delivery. During this time, Patil allegedly entered the house.
Woman alleges indecent act
In her complaint, the woman alleged that the delivery agent requested permission to use the bathroom. Although she refused, he allegedly entered the bathroom and emerged a few minutes later without clothes, exposing himself.
The incident was subsequently reported to the police, following which Patil was arrested.
Accused claims innocence
The accused has now filed a bail application, maintaining that he is innocent of the allegations levelled against him.
During the hearing, the rural Bengaluru court directed the State government to submit its objections before deciding on the bail plea.
The case is currently under investigation, and the court has not made any findings on the merits of the allegations. The legal proceedings will continue after the prosecution files its response.
Authorities have urged the public to promptly report incidents involving harassment or inappropriate behaviour, while emphasising that the allegations against the accused will be examined through due legal process.
