Bengaluru: The state government has withdrawn the demotion order of all the SC/ST employees issued in the year 2018. This order was issued following the Supreme Court upholding the state law on the promotion of SC/ST employees.
On May 10, 2018, the Supreme Court had upheld the state law enacted to protect the interests of the SC/ST government employees who were demoted following a Supreme Court order on BK Pavithra V/s Government of Karnataka case.
According to the DPAR sources, in the middle of 2018, the government of Karnataka had demoted over 3,800 SC/ST employees based on BK Pavithra case judgement. Now 30 days time has been given to promote the SC/ST employees to their old posts.
Herculean task: According to the authorities, it is not easy to take up the work as the matter is very sensitive. “Following the demotion of SC/ST employees, general category employees were promoted to the same posts. Now there is the need of finding a suitable post for all,” explained an officer from the DPAR.
