Dengue cases rise in state, flood-hit area vulnerable, caution officials

Bengaluru: The state Health and Family Welfare Department has released a statistics on Dengue and number of people being affected by it.

According to the reports the numbers have increased when compared to that of last year.

The number according to the previous years’ report released by the department was 2, 199. This year it has shot up to 10, 524 as on January 1. Six people are reported dead without responding to the treatment.

According to the figures mentioned in the statistical report of the Health and Family Welfare Department in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Pailke jurisdiction alone there are 6, 515 people tested positive for Dengue. A total of 322 Dengue cases have been reported in Bengaluru in last one week. Dakshina Kannada district stands second with 948 Dengue cases. Shivamogga stands third with 384, Haveri with 272, followed by Chamarajanagar with 199, Kalaburgi with 183, Hassan 157, Udupi 167, Chikkamagaluru 165, and Davangere 161.

When it comes to death toll due to Dengue, two each died in Dakshina Kannada and Bengaluru. In Ramanagara and Chitradurga two each deaths were reported. The department officials have cautioned about Dengue spreading even in flood-affected areas.

They have said that “Aedes aegypti” or “Yellow fever mosquito” would breed in stagnant water. For this, the officials have recommended to take precautionary measures.
