An employee of the Devanahalli Revenue Department made a daring escape on Wednesday when he fled with bribe money after spotting Lokayukta police officers. Despite efforts to capture him, the employee managed to evade authorities, leaving them empty-handed.
The incident occurred when Jayasurya, a resident of Chikkaballapur, sought a license from the revenue department to open a petrol station near Venkatagirikote in Devanahalli taluk. Mahesh, the officer in charge of the revenue department, allegedly demanded ₹2.50 lakh from Jayasurya in exchange for processing his application.
Frustrated by the extortion attempt, Jayasurya reported the matter to the Lokayukta police. When Jayasurya arrived at the revenue department with an initial payment of ₹50,000 on Wednesday, the Lokayukta police raided the office while Mahesh was receiving the money. Realizing he had been caught red-handed, Mahesh fled the office with the bribe money.
Despite authorities’ efforts to apprehend him and recover the funds, Mahesh successfully evaded capture and disappeared. The investigation into this bribery case is ongoing as officials work to gather the necessary evidence and documents related to the incident.
