Bengaluru: On Wednesday, September 4, Congress leader and former chief minister Siddaramaiah was caught on camera slapping one of his aides after speaking to the press at the Mysuru airport. The video went viral and his act sparked widespread criticism.
As per reports, the party worker tried to give him the phone and make him talk to someone for a favour.
Taking to Twitter to defend himself against the criticism, Siddaramaiah said that the incident was “blown out of proportion” and that there will always be instances of him “expressing affection and dissatisfaction out of concern”.
His tweet read: “Nadanahalli Ravi is like my son. I have been his guide for long time & there are many such followers with me. There will always be instances of me expressing affection & dissatisfaction out of concern. Today’s incident is one such thing but was blown out of proportion. (sic)”

Calling Siddaramaiah his “father figure”, Ravi said, “Please don’t take the incident in any other way. Siddaramaiah is like my father. He slapped me as he treats me like his son,” he said.
In a previous incident, Siddaramaiah had snatched a mic from a woman Congress worker who was complaining about a local MLA. He accidentally pulled her dupatta while doing so, causing a controversy.
He later tried to defend himself saying that the woman was “like his sister” and that the incident was unintentional.
