Bengaluru: Nearly 30 Volvo buses of BMTC were damaged during a fuel refill at a a Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) bunk near BMTC bus depot, Kathriguppe on Friday, it is said.

According to reports water had seeped into the diesel tank of the bunk owing to the heavy downpour in the city. When the buses had arrived at the bunk here to fill diesel after completeing their routine runs, the water mixed diesel was filled in the fuel tanks.

However managing director of BMTC V Ponnuraj has rubbished the damage claims stating that timely observation helped prevent any damage to the buses which are currently being inspected by the BMTC maintenance team.

Since it was observed that the fuel being injected had water content, operation of these buses were stopped and damages prevented, said Ponnuraj adding that damage can occur only when the buses are started.

These buses are expected to be back in operation after the fuel is emptied and the fuel tank is completely dried.
