Dinesh Maheshwari sworn in as Chief Justice of High Court

Bengaluru: Justice Dinesh Maheshwari took oath as the 29th Chief Justice of the High Court of Karnataka on Monday.

Governor Vajubhai R. Vala administered the oath to Maheshwari at the Raj Bhavan. He was serving as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court prior to this.

Born on May 15, 1958, Maheshwari graduated in law from Jodhpur University in 1980 and enrolled as advocate in 1981. He was elevated as judge of the Rajasthan High Court in 2004 and was transferred to Allahabad High Court in July 2014. He was elevated as the Chief Justice and transferred to Meghalaya High Court in February 2016.

For the total eight-minute-long oath-taking ceremony, which was scheduled to commence at 4.30 p.m., Governor Vala, judges of the High Court and other dignitaries had to wait for 22 minutes for Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Chief Secretary Ratna Prabha announced at 4.25 p.m. that the programme would be delayed by 10 to 15 minutes following a delay in the arrival of the aircraft for the Chief Minister in Ballari. Siddaramaiah arrived at 4.52 p.m. after the Governor arrived and occupied the stage.
