Diwali celebrations turn tragic for many in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Despite massive awareness campaigns and caution through advertisements in all forms of media, 20 people, mainly children were seriously injured in various incidents associated with the festival of lights in the state capital.

Among the 20 injured, 15 approached hospitals with sight related injuries. Children by name Kavitha and Dharan were treated in Minto eye hospital Bengaluru while seven people were treated in Narayana Netralaya at Rajajinagar. Two girls by name Bhagyasri and Chaitnya were treated in private hospitals in M G road area.

Vasan eye care, Shekhar, Agarwal and Rangashri eye hospitals had more than 10 patients walking in with Diwali cracker related injuries and most were treated and sent back home within few hours. Only 2 patients with grievous injuries were retained in the hospital.

Reports of injuries are pouring in from other districts. Government and media have earnestly appealed public to take safety measures during the festival of lights which will last for 2 more days.

Let the joy associated with the Light may not take away precious sight which is nothing but light of life!
