Bengaluru: Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa along with the council of ministers have to take up a State visit to understand the  hardships of people. If not entire State, atleast visit the family of 36 victims of Chamarajanagarar incident and console them, said Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committe (KPCC) President D. K. Shivakumar.

Speaking to media persons at Queen’s Road here on Wednesday July 1, he said that the voice of people is not heard and  their pain is not felt by the government. It is only us and the court who senses it. The court of law has been pronouncing orders favouring the public on continous basis. Yesterday too Supreme Court extended six months time limit on relief measure to be adopted, he said.

Shivakumar said that inspite of 36 members being killed in Chamarajanagara incident, only 24 families have received the relief measure. No single person has been convicted in this matter. If you have not wronged then why aren’t you visiting the families? Why should a government be in power if it is unable to shoulder people’s hardship? If not CM why not atleast a single minister makes a visit to families? If not visit to entire state, we request the government to atleast visit the families of those 36 members,” he added.

‘When the court of law itself pronounces that the death is due to lack of oxygen, there is a need to understand the reason for the death. From administrators to ministers each individuals were aware of lack of oxygen availability. But no single measure was adopted in curbing the problem, he noted.

Shivakumar said that in all 80% of the victims among 36 were below 40 years of age. I am waiting for the government to call the session and I will express myself therein. Let them call the session, and we will continue our fight. If this is the condition of the state which is famous for medical tourism and the hospitals, possessing doctors and deans what would be the condition outside?, he stressed. We have pressurised the court that the State and Union Government has to provide relief fund to the deceased. I along with our party leaders have given 1lakh each on behalf of the party. The family has not been given death certificates. If so, then how will they proceed with their application and how can they receive relief?, He questioned.

He said, “no single person is convicted or made responsible of this disaster. The reason behind the disaster has to be found and a suo moto case has to be filed against the culprit. We need to continue our struggle in support to Covid victims. It is the responsibility of an opposition party. Covid deaths have not been audited. It is to be done. In all 3 lakh people in the State who died out of covid have to get the relief based on High Court order. It is the responsibility of the government and right of the people,” he added.

Speaking on the occasion,  Eshwara Khandre, KPCC Working President said that government is publishing fudged numbers as far as Covid deaths are concerned. In all 557 members have lost their lives in District Hospital in Bidar. I have those records. Apart from death being reported in government hospitals, private hospitals and houses have witnessed more than 2000 deaths in a month. It is the record of Bidar district alone. If the records of entire State is taken into consideration then like Shivakumar said it is clear that more than 3 lakh people have lost their lives, he added.
