Bengaluru: Chiming into the ongoing Yesu Krista statue row that has gripped parts of the state, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje of the BJP said that Congress leader D K Shivakumar is playing “petty politics”.

Speaking to ANI on Monday, January 13, she said, “Shivakumar is doing all of this to please (Congress) party leader Sonia Gandhi for his own personal gains. He is playing petty politics and humiliating the majorities. For centuries, the Kapali hills have been a Hindu area and it belongs to the Hindus.”

About her recent complaint to the police regarding a forcible conversion threat and rape of a Kasargod girl, Karandlaje said, “The 18-year-old girl was raped in Mangaluru, Bengaluru and other places. She was sexually harassed ever since she was a minor. This is a case of rape and forced conversion.”

She explained that the accused had filmed the girl and threatened her family to convert. “One of the accused was arrested. The case should be handed over to the CID,” she said.
