Bengaluru: Karnataka MLA DK Shivakumar, who has been in the Enforcement Directorate custody, facing charges of money laundering, was shifted to Tihar jail, on Thursday.
DK Shivakumar, whose health was deteriorating over the last few days, has reportedly recovered and hence has been shifted to Tihar jail from RML hospital, where he was undergoing treatment. As per sources, he will be lodged in cell no-7 in the central prison.
It may be recalled that a Special CBI Court, on Tuesday sent Congress leader DK Shivakumar to Tihar jail on Tuesday in money laundering case. He will be kept in judicial custody for 14 days – till October 1. However, owing to his health conditions, the court ordered that he should be taken to the hospital first and if the doctor says that he needs medical supervision, he can be admitted, else he can be discharged and taken to Tihar jail.
On Wednesday, DK Shivakumar, during the hearing had told a Delhi court that he sees no point in keeping him in “endless custody” in the money laundering case. “I am not accused of “terrorism” or any other heinous offence,” he told.
A Special CBI Court earlier extended ED’s custody of Shivakumar leader till September 17. He was earlier sent to ED custody till September 13. The sitting MLA from Kanakapura assembly seat is in ED custody since his arrest on September 3.
Former union finance minister P Chidambaram too is housed in Tihar jail in the INX Media case.
