A doctor from Bengaluru’s RMV Extension has filed a police complaint alleging that gold jewellery worth ₹24 lakh has gone missing from her bank locker, prompting an investigation.

Jewellery kept after family function

According to the complaint, the 57-year-old had accessed her locker at a nationalised bank branch on February 27 ahead of her son’s wedding, taking out ornaments for the occasion.

After the ceremonies, she returned to the bank on March 3 to deposit a portion of the jewellery. She reportedly placed around 150–160 grams of gold items—including a necklace, chain, jhumkis, and bangles—inside a transparent plastic box and secured it in the locker.

Missing box discovered later

When she revisited the locker on March 12 to deposit the remaining ornaments, she found that the plastic box containing the jewellery was missing.

The unexpected discovery led her to immediately inform bank officials and seek clarification.

CCTV footage raises questions

Bank authorities reviewed CCTV footage from March 3. According to initial findings, the footage shows the doctor entering the locker room carrying both a jewellery box and a brown bag, but exiting with only the bag.

Officials are now examining whether the jewellery was inadvertently not placed inside the locker or if other factors were involved.

Police begin probe

Unsatisfied with the bank’s response, the doctor approached the Sadashivanagar police station and filed a formal complaint. Police have sought CCTV footage and relevant records from the bank to verify the sequence of events.

Investigation underway

Authorities stated that the case is under investigation, and all angles are being examined, including procedural lapses and possible misplacement.

The incident has raised concerns about locker security and the need for greater vigilance while handling valuable assets.
