Bengaluru: Doddaballapur taluk administration is facing a strange situation. It has more than 10,000 applications submitted by farmers of the taluk demanding loan waiver by the nationalised banks.
All started with the Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene along with like minded organisations starting an agitation on Thursday under which farmers were asked to submit applications to taluk administration informing their loan amount and waiver of the same. As this agitation attracted thousands of farmers, taluk administration was forced to set up separate counters to receive applications. By Friday evening taluk administration has received around 10,000 applications seeking loan waiver.
According to officials they are clueless over deposing these applications. “We can just forward the same to state government,” said an officer.
Loan waiver has been a long pending demand of the farmers, which the state has not obliged to till now. Several debt-ridden farmers have ended life in the state.
