A 20-year-old domestic worker was allegedly attacked at her residence on Belagere Road after she resisted repeated sexual harassment by a group of men, raising fresh concerns over women’s safety in the city.

Assault after repeated harassment

According to police, the incident took place on the night of April 3 when the accused allegedly targeted the woman at her home. The men reportedly locked the house from outside, forced entry by breaking down the door, and dragged her out.

The situation escalated until neighbours intervened, preventing further harm and ensuring that the victim received immediate medical attention.

Arrests under new criminal law

Police have arrested two suspects under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, invoking sections related to stalking and criminal intimidation. Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend other individuals involved in the attack.

Officials confirmed that the investigation is progressing, with statements being recorded and evidence being collected.

Victim recounts fear and isolation

The victim stated that she had been facing continuous harassment and threats from the accused prior to the incident. Living alone in the city, she expressed deep fear for her safety.

“I live alone and have no family. I fear for my life,” she told authorities.

Support and ongoing probe

The woman is currently under the care of a city-based social activist as she recovers from the trauma. Police are continuing their probe and have assured strict action against all those involved.

The incident once again underscores the urgent need for stronger community vigilance and effective measures to ensure the safety and dignity of women, particularly those living alone in urban areas.
