Bengaluru: With China raising its rhetoric in border row with India, the decision of Delhi Public School (DPS) in Bengaluru to celebrate Chinese New Year food fest has left many parents and student organisations fuming.
The school management had earlier issued a circular asking students to dress in Chinese outfits and prepare Chinese food as part of the festival. Cultural programmes too were part of the festival to showcase Chinese culture and students were asked to wear red outfits (if possible) synonymous with Chinese culture.
When parents and few members of public came to know of school’s plans to organise Chinese new year fest they immediately raised an alarm. They also managed to drum up support and opposed the decision of the school management.
Meanwhile, ABVP, a right wing student outfit has warned of massive protest in front of the school, in case it went ahead with its plans to celebrate the fest, when China is involved in war mongering across the border.
North Zone BEO visited the school on receipt of information and said the school had not taken permission to celebrate Chinese New Year fest in the school. It will be asked to drop its plans, if any, he added.
