Bengaluru: In a first-of-its-kind move for a residential complex in the city, Prestige Falcon City has teamed up with BigBasket’s premium service, BBfly, to offer drone delivery of essentials such as groceries, medicines, snacks, and electronics. The service promises delivery within five minutes, catering to the upscale residents of this luxury society where homes start at around ₹2 crore.
According to a notice shared with residents, drones will drop off packages at a designated landing pad within the society. A trained staff member will collect and hand-deliver the items to individual flats. Additionally, a drone operator will be stationed nearby to oversee landings for safety.
The BBfly drone service will operate daily between 7 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. While the initiative aims to enhance delivery speed and reduce visitor traffic inside the society, it has sparked mixed reactions online.
Critics point out the irony of a high-tech initiative still relying on human labour for last-mile delivery. Entrepreneur Samit Singh remarked on X (formerly Twitter), “You can bring automation to India, but still can’t take away the low-cost labour.”
Notably, Prestige Falcon City’s effort isn’t the first drone delivery attempt in Bengaluru. Earlier this month, Skye Air launched a hyperlocal drone delivery network in Konankunte and Kanakapura Road, promising seven-minute drop-offs — making Bengaluru India’s second city after Gurugram to embrace drone logistics.
