In a shocking case of drunk driving, a 28-year-old post office truck driver caused chaos near the General Post Office (GPO) in central Bengaluru on Wednesday evening. The incident left three women injured and four others with minor wounds.

The driver, identified as Manoj, was allegedly intoxicated and speeding around 4 PM when he drove out of the GPO premises heading toward Raj Bhavan. Manoj lost control of the truck and rammed into three autorickshaws and a car.

Among the seriously injured were Fameeda and her daughter Taj, who were passengers in one of the autos, and Vimala Devi, seated in another rickshaw. All three women are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be out of danger. The drivers of the autos and the car sustained minor bruises and were treated at a nearby hospital.

Traffic police stationed at the junction immediately responded, detaining Manoj at the scene. Officers noted he reeked of alcohol, and an alcometer test confirmed a blood alcohol level of over 200 mg/100 ml—five times the legal limit of 40 mg/100 ml.

Manoj has been booked for drunk driving and rash driving under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 281 and taken into custody.

The police have launched further investigation into the incident and emphasized the strict consequences of drunk driving.
