Bengaluru: In what may come as a shock for many of those who prefer to roam around shopping malls, and cinema theatres in the city rather than exercising their franchise on the voting day, the Election Commission (EC) is mulling closing all multiplexes and shopping malls within city limits on voting day.
The Election commission has initiated various measures, including awareness programmes to increase the voting percentage in upcoming Assembly elections. For this purpose advertisements, statements from celebrities etc are being used in order to motivate people to come forth and elect their representative for the Assembly for next five years.
Along with this, Election Commission provides voter’s slip to each voter with their photograph. Since the EC wants to do something else to avoid voters roaming shopping malls and cinema on the D-Day, it has come with the new plan of closing these avenues for the public till 6 pm in the evening on the voting day. The plan, however is not yet finalized.
“The Central Election Commission has given some vocal directions to the Bengaluru Urban District Election Officer regarding this. If CEC gives an official nod for the proposal, shopping malls and multiplexes of Bengaluru have to be remain closed till 6 pm on May 12,” said Bengaluru Urban Election Officer Manjunath Prasad.
