Bengaluru: In a reprieve to the farmers and the state government, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has permitted the latter to continue their loan waiver scheme. As per the ECI’s permission, the state government can waive off the farm loans of those farmers who were short-listed for the waiver.
“The ECI has permitted the state government to release money for the scheme. The money release for the loan waiver was stopped on March 11, following the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC),” said sources in the Chief Minister’s Office.
According to them, the state government had also approached the ECI seeking permission to take up the drought relief work across the state.
