Bengaluru: More trouble seems to be brewing for arrested Karnataka Congress strong man D K Shivakumar. On Wednesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) will grill former Madhugiri MLA K N Rajanna, who was also the president of the Karnataka State Apex Co-operative Bank till recently, regarding with the wealth of DKShi and Belagavi rural MLA Lakshmi Hebbalkar.
According to sources, Rajanna reached New Delhi on Tuesday evening and held several rounds of discussion with DKShi’s advocates. Sources add that, when Rajanna was president of the Tumakuru Cooperative Bank, he allegedly sanctioned a loan of Rs 25 crores to Harsha Sugars, owned by Lakshmi Hebbalkar in Belagavi.
“The ED is trying to find the money trail in DKShi’s case. It is so complex that no one is able to unearth the real source of the money. Now the ED is trying to zero in on Lakshmi as she was DKShi’s main benami beneficiary,” said a source close to the investigation.
“K N Rajanna is a Congress leader and a staunch critic of then DCM G Parameshwar. Everyone was surprised as to how he was able to take on Parameshwar. Now it is becoming clear that Rajanna was the face for DKShi’s financing,” he added.
