ED’s custody of IMA scam accused Mansoor Khan extended till Aug 1

Bengaluru: I Monetary Advisory (IMA) scam accused Mohammed Mansoor Khan will remain in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate till August 1. His custody was extended by the designated court for cases under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

It can be recalled that Khan has been in the custody of the Bengaluru zonal unit of the ED since he was brought to the city from New Delhi on July 20. He was apprehended at the Indira Gandhi International Airport by the ED’s Delhi soon after he arrived from Dubai.

He was initially remanded to the ED’s custody till July 23 and on the request of the investigating agency, the custody was extended by three days which ended on July 25. Sources said that upon the agency’s second requested that the custody be extended till August 1 for further interrogation, the court extended the custody. The maximum period allowed by the law for police to keep a suspect in custody, cannot be extended for more than 15 days in a single case.

According to the sources, Khan is cooperating with the investigators and has given them strong leads in the case. They added that Khan’s relatives, wives, auditors and other directors, who were earlier summoned by the ED, are also being questioned.

The SIT, on the other hand, which booked Mansoor under cheating and breach of trust for an alleged fraud of Rs 2,000 crores will have to wait for Khan’s custody till the ED is done with him.

While Khan is being questioned in Bengaluru, his interrogation is being supervised by the central unit of the ED.
