Belagavi: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Saturday June 11 that he is commitment to the development of Northern Karnataka. He made the statement while speaking at a campaign meeting for the Legislative Council election for the North-Western Graduates’ and Teachers’ constituencies at the KLE Society in Belagavi.

He also emphasised KLE’s role to the development of the southern state, claiming that Arun Shahapur and Hanumath Nirani are ideal candidates who will not disappoint the electorate if they are elected.

“The Maharajas of Mysuru and the KLE Society have made significant contributions to the development of the state, particularly in the education sector, especially in Northern Karnataka. The KLE Society has led on a noble path by President Prabhakar Kore. Under Kore’s capable leadership, the KLE Society has grown from 34 educational institutions to 278 educational institutions in the last three decades “Bommai remarked.

“Education is a top priority for my government. This year, around 7000 new classrooms will be built. Over 15000 teachers would be recruited, and seven government engineering colleges will be upgraded to IIT standards,” he said.

He also said that there will be collaborations with foreign universities, that a Centre of Excellence will be formed at Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, and that the State’s New Education Policy is now being implemented.

“Belagavi is a knowledge and skill centre. After Bengaluru, it has become the most important city,” Bommai added.
