Bengaluru: The Kempegowda Nagar police have arrested eight people allegedly involved in dacoity on National Highway 48 in Tumakuru district for two months.

The police have identified the arrested persons as Paramesh, 24, Darshan, 24, Srinivasa, 23, Vasu M, 25, Manjunatha, 19, Nanjunda B.P., 24, Shivakumar, 25, and Ravi K.V., 24.

The accused, hailing from Mandya, Bengaluru Rural and Hassan districts, ganged up to loot money from people, especially from customers at a hammam (bath house maintained by transgenders) adjacent to the National Highway, the police said.

According to the police, the accused unleashed terror on parts of the highway and targeted those visiting the bath house for the last two months but only three cases have been registered against them.

The police have urged the public to file complaints as victims do not wish to lodge cases and identify themselves because they were robbed while visiting the hammam.

The police have nabbed the gang members when they had come to rob transgenders in Kempegowda Nagar.

The police have recovered 190 gm of gold jewellery, 256 gm of silver articles and two mobile phones along with an SUV, which are valued at Rs 21 lakh. The police said all the eight arrested are drivers and the residents of Channarayapattana and Kanakpura areas and ganged up as they are in the same profession.
