Elderly Man Defrauded of ₹20,000 by Impersonators Posing as Police
In a distressing incident in Bengaluru, an elderly man was duped of ₹20,000 by unidentified scammers who posed as police officials. The victim, identified as Shankar K (name changed), a resident of Mathikere, received a phone call on October 28 from someone claiming to be a policeman. The caller falsely informed Shankar that his son had been arrested in a serious rape case and faced a potential 20-year prison sentence.
In a state of panic, Shankar asked what he should do next. The scammers instructed him to pay ₹20,000 to secure his son’s release. Believing the deceitful claims, Shankar complied with their demands. It was only after he reached out to his son that he realized he had been conned.
The police are investigating the incident to track down the perpetrators behind this alarming scam targeting vulnerable individuals.
