Bengaluru: “It must be made mandatory to join the NSS, NCC or Scout and Guides, alongside obtaining a degree”, said the Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu, here on Tuesday, October 9.

Addressing a gathering at a programme on the occasion of V P Deenadayalu Naidu Birth Centenary, organised in the Central College auditorium, Venkaiah Naidu said, “It is necessary for the youth to join either of them to inculcate discipline and principles in life.”

“We need to elect our leaders and representatives based of 4 C’s namely, Caliber, Character, Conduct and Capacity. But unfortunately the other 4 C’s namely Caste, Community, Cash and Criminality have taken over. As a result, representatives inculcating the latter 4 C’s are coming to the forefront”, he added.

Vice Prez Naidu also said, “Several of the Naidus, Gowdas, Sharmas, Shastris and many more have passed by. But we only remember a few from those. We remember those who have laid down their lives and put efforts to build this country. V P Deendayalu Naidu is one such person.”

Emphasising on the core values he said, “We have science in schools these days, but we have long forgotten morals. As a reason, we need to boost the core values among the current youth.”

Speaking on climatic change, Naidu said, “We need to end the destruction of nature. Without leaving any stone unturned, rivers, lakes and roadways also are encroached. As a result of this, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Kodagu have faced the destruction. Human insensitivity is the prime reason for such catastrophes.”

People are responsible for ‘Smart City
“The situation in Bengaluru is also similar. Pollution and congestion have become common. Modi cannot cast a spell to make Bengaluru a smart city. It is impossible from CM Kumaraswamy too. It is the people who need to cooperate along with able local representatives. Encroachment practice should stop”, he added.

Speaking on Scouts Movement he said, “In the Scout Movement, Karnataka is topping the list. A movement which was begun by Deendayalu Naidu is now taken forward by PGR Sindhya”.

Governor of Karnataka, Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala said, “I thank everyone who has attended this programme, as you’ll have attended the centenary birth celebration of a person who has sacrificed his life for the nation. If iron is touched with that of diamond, the iron too turns to gold. Similarly, if we remember such great souls, we can transform our lives”.

He gave a call to the youth by saying, “Many people live and die, but only a few are remembered. The ones who have strived for the country and sacrificed their lives for the country will attain eternity. Nothing is impossible youths. Even mountains can be powdered down. They can withstand even a storm. Such should be the power of youth which in turn should help build a nation”.

Touching upon the speech made by the RSS Chief, Mohan Bhagwat, Vajubhai Vala said, “People who accept the principles and teachings of RSS, are termed as ‘Hindutva Ideologists’. But Mohan Bhagwat has said that first one needs to adhere to the Indianness and then its cultures and traditions”.

“Let it be a Hindu, a Muslim or a Christian, they should understand that they are Indians first”, he added.
