Bengaluru: The Department of Collegiate Education (DCE) directed the college principals to ensure a minimum enrollment of 15 students in any course. If any course does not have the minimum number of students, it must be closed.
In a circular, the DCE directed the college principals to ensure good admissions in the degree colleges. It also fixed the minimum students strength for any course at 15 students. If the criteria is not met, the students need to find alternative combinations.
According to the authorities, for languages like Urdu and Sanskrit, the minimum strength has been fixed at 10 students.
The DCE’s decision is likely to create a new controversy with lecturers alleging that this move is against the interest of the student fraternity. But the DCE has justified their decision saying that this has been done keeping in mind the interest of the academic environment in a classroom.
