Bengaluru: Salaries of Electricity Supply Companies’ (ESCOMs) employees have been hiked by 26%, as per a memorandum of understanding signed with Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL), here on Saturday.
After the senior officials of ESCOMs and KPTCL signed the MoU before the Power Minister D K Shivakumar in Vidhana Soudha, the minister said that the actual demand was to increase the salary by 38%. However, since it should not become a burden for the companies, it is decided to increase the payment by 26%.
The pay hike will be implemented with retrospective from April 1, 2017, and 59,270 employees and 37,966 pensioners will get benefit from this. This pay-hike will put a burden of Rs.844 crores on ESCOMs. Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) will be informed regarding the burden due to the pay revision.
The vacant posts in all 5 ESCOMs will be filled through a transparent method. It is being considered under the limits of the law to make the village electricity representatives permanent.
