Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar today lashed out at the BJP saying that people were aware of phone tapping incidents during its previous tenure.

Speaking to reporters at his Sadashivanagar residence, he said, “Everyone knows what kind of phone tapping incidents took place during the rule of those accusing our government of phone tapping.”

He was reacting to Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashoka demanded that the issue of the alleged telephone tapping by the Congress government be handed over to the CBI; he also alleged that the police had informed him that telephones of Opposition leaders were being tapped.

Asked about Opposition leader R Ashoka’s allegations, he said, “He was also a Home Minister. Some of the others alleging phone tapping were former Chief ministers. Let them give a written complaint regarding this. Everyone knows their track record.”

Asked about the meeting of ministers today, he said, “We have organised a dinner for the ministers, where we will discuss planning for the upcoming local body elections.”

Replying to a query if action would be taken against those ministers who haven’t managed the Lok Sabha elections well, he said he could not comment on the issue.

Asked about Kumaraswamy’s statement that people working with D K Shivakumar have tipped him off on phone tapping, he said Kumaraswamy was free to submit an affidavit with all the names.
