Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Tuesday revealed that cyber criminals hacked into three of his bank accounts and siphoned off a total of ₹3 lakh through fraudulent transactions.
Bank accounts hacked
Speaking at a programme in Bengaluru marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday, where 75 civic workers were felicitated at BBMP Park in RMV Extension, Gowda disclosed that hackers had targeted his accounts.
“Yesterday, three of my bank accounts were hacked. Each account lost around ₹1 lakh, amounting to a total of ₹3 lakh. The hackers stole the money through UPI transactions from my HDFC, SBI, and Axis Bank accounts. I will be filing a complaint with the Cyber Crime police,” he said.
Concerns over rising cybercrime
Gowda expressed concern over the alarming increase in cyber fraud cases, warning that such crimes, if left unchecked, could lead to large-scale financial loot in the future.
“Despite several measures by the government and police, cyber frauds continue to rise at a worrying pace. If these crimes are not curbed soon, bigger incidents of financial theft may occur,” the former Union Minister cautioned.
Complaint to be filed
Gowda said he would approach the Cyber Crime police to lodge a formal complaint regarding the fraudulent transactions. Authorities are expected to trace the UPI transactions and identify the perpetrators.
