BENGALURU: Parantap Chowdhury, a former Assistant Vice President at Square Yards, made a dramatic career shift by quitting his high-paying corporate job to focus on writing and building a digital business. After seven years in demanding roles at startups like BYJU’s and Square Yards, Chowdhury left his position six months ago, despite an annual salary of ₹54 lakh.
In a LinkedIn post, Chowdhury shared his journey of leaving behind a lucrative career to pursue a life that balances personal fulfillment and professional passion. “I quit the race 6 months ago to have a life, spend time with the people I love, and build a business that is remote, digital, and profitable,” he wrote.
At 32, Chowdhury had managed a large sales team and trained thousands of salespeople, but his role demanded over 70 hours a week, often including Sundays. Reflecting on his decision, he noted, “I would have earned ₹9.81 lakh in the last 90 days had I stayed in my job, but I’ve lived more in these three months than in the three years before that.”
Since quitting, Chowdhury has dedicated himself to writing and engaging with content on LinkedIn, which has led to significant growth in followers and two sales consulting gigs. Although his earnings are a fraction of what he made in his corporate role, he remains optimistic.
With sufficient savings to support his lifestyle for seven years in Bengaluru or ten years in Kolkata, Chowdhury is focused on building a remote income stream while continuing his writing. He acknowledges the challenges of financial uncertainty but finds the freedom and purpose he has gained to be invaluable.
