Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has summoned BJP Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje in connection with providing wrong information to Election Commission on total expenses for contesting in Lok Sabha election.
Petitioner Anoop Kumar Shetty, from Udupi had approached the state High Court after the Election Commission failed to take action against Shobha Karandlaje.

Anoop in his complaint to the Central Election Commission on December 19, 2014 stated that the BJP leader had given false information regarding the expenses incurred during the Lok Sabha elections. The complainant had also stated that, by giving wrong information, Shobha had violated section 10 of Representation of People Act of 1951. Shobha had contested as a BJP candidate from Udupi-Chikkamagaluru constituency.

The verdict on the plea was announced on July 18 by the Single judge bench headed by Justice S Abdul Nazir.
