Bengaluru: The family of Atul Subhash, a software professional who reportedly took his own life, has vehemently opposed the bail plea of his wife, Nikita Singhania. They are also seeking custody of the couple’s four-year-old son. The bail hearing is scheduled for January 4 in a Bengaluru court.

Allegations of Manipulating Legal Proceedings

Atul’s family claims Nikita is attempting to misuse her son to strengthen her bail application. “She should not be allowed to exploit the child as a bargaining chip. We’ve requested full custody to safeguard his future,” said their lawyer.

The family also accused Nikita of exploiting Atul financially, alleging she used the child to extract money. “She treated our grandson as a tool for extortion, constantly increasing her demands,” said Pavan Kumar Modi, Atul’s father.

Concerns for Child’s Welfare

Raising serious concerns, the grandparents fear for the boy’s safety if Nikita is released. “If she could torment my son to the point of suicide, how can we trust her with the child?” questioned Pavan Modi. They also criticized Nikita for placing the boy in a hostel instead of keeping him by her side.

Legal Efforts for Custody

The family has filed a habeas corpus petition with the Supreme Court, requesting authorities to locate and hand over the child. The matter is set for a hearing on January 7.

“We trust the judiciary to prioritize our grandson’s well-being,” said Bikas Kumar, Atul’s brother.
