The Indiranagar police in Bengaluru have arrested three family members of a man accused of stabbing five individuals within six hours last week. The accused, Kadamba, had been arrested earlier, but his father, Suresh (55), elder brother Vishnu (28), and sister Sushmitha (24) were taken into custody on Saturday for allegedly aiding his escape, police officers confirmed.
Kadamba, under the influence of alcohol, carried out a series of knife attacks in Indiranagar on February 8, leaving five victims injured before attempting to flee the city. After the attacks, the police launched an extensive manhunt, forming four special teams led by DCP D Devaraj. After seven days of intense efforts, the police managed to apprehend Kadamba and his family members in a coordinated operation.
Kadamba, who has a history of criminal activities, including extortion, robbery attempts, and threats, was traced after investigators overcame challenges posed by his avoidance of mobile phones. Police turned to traditional methods, monitoring his family and associates. The investigation revealed that Kadamba’s father, Suresh, played a significant role in helping his son evade arrest. Suresh was found to have transported Kadamba on his bike to meet lawyers, attempting to arrange bail.
As a result, Suresh, Vishnu, and Sushmitha were booked under BNS Section 158 for aiding an accused in escaping, and they were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
