Bengaluru: The Kaggalipura Police in Bengaluru South district have registered an attempt to murder case after a 24-year-old farmer was allegedly attacked with a stone for refusing to buy cigarettes for a man from his village.
The victim, Ganesha N, a resident of Kalligowdanadoddi village, lodged a complaint with the police on July 12. The accused has been identified as Nagesha, who also hails from the same village.
Argument over cigarettes turned violent
According to the complaint, the incident began on July 10 at around 8.30 pm, when Nagesha allegedly asked Ganesha to buy him cigarettes.
After a brief argument, Ganesha reportedly told him that he had no money and left the spot.
The following evening, at around 8 pm, Nagesha allegedly went to Ganesha’s house and confronted him again over the earlier refusal.
Victim allegedly assaulted with stone
Police said the accused allegedly grabbed Ganesha by his shirt collar, shook him violently and pushed him to the ground during the altercation.
The complaint further states that Nagesha then picked up a stone and struck Ganesha on the forehead, causing injuries.
Hearing the victim’s cries for help, neighbours rushed to the spot, rescued him and shifted him to the Kanakapura Government Hospital for treatment.
Police register attempt to murder case
Based on the complaint, Kaggalipura Police have registered a case under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to attempt to murder.
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack and take further legal action.
