Farmer leader Kuruburu Shanthakumar, who sustained serious injuries in an accident near Patiala, Punjab, was airlifted in an ICATT Air Ambulance to Bengaluru on Sunday for further medical care, according to a statement from the office of Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Shanthakumar arrived in Bengaluru in the evening and is currently being treated at Manipal Hospitals, Old Airport Road.
Shanthakumar, who suffered injuries to his vertebral bones, particularly in the cervical region of his spine, is undergoing conservative treatment. Dr. Sunil Karanth, the head of critical care medicine at Manipal Hospitals, stated that Shanthakumar’s condition is stable, and his full injuries are still being evaluated. “We are assessing the extent of his injuries, but apart from the spinal injury, he is stable,” Dr. Karanth explained.
Shanthakumar had been receiving medical treatment in Patiala for the past three days following the accident. Acting on the instructions of the Chief Minister, government officials coordinated the air ambulance transfer, which included a medical team of doctors and assistants, to ensure his safe journey to Bengaluru for further care.
