Bengaluru: Vijayapura district in-charge minister M B Patil has urged the Centre to cut the long 15-hour train journey between Bengaluru and the districts of Vijayapura and Bagalkot to just 10 hours.

In a phone call with Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna on Saturday, Patil pointed out that trains halt unnecessarily for long durations at Hubballi and Gadag due to engine changes. He suggested that trains should instead use bypass routes at these junctions to save time.

If existing services cannot be rerouted, Patil proposed launching new express trains dedicated to serving passengers from Vijayapura and Bagalkot. Somanna reportedly responded positively and assured that he would raise the issue with railway authorities in Delhi soon.

Patil also held talks with South Western Railway’s Chief Administrative Officer Ajay Sharma, who informed him that the pending electrification of the railway line in this region is expected to be completed by July. Once done, the travel time between Bengaluru and the northern Karnataka districts is likely to reduce significantly.

Patil has been consistently engaging with railway officials to push for faster, mornewskarnatakae efficient rail connectivity for the region.
