A private firm employee, Ram Kailash Yadav, has lost ₹1.3 lakh to fraudsters after seeking a refund from the edtech startup Byju‘s. Yadav had enrolled his son at a Byju’s tuition centre in Bengaluru, paying an initial fee of ₹15,000 and monthly EMIs. Classes were irregular, and the centre was eventually shut down.

Yadav contacted Byju’s for a refund, only to be asked to pay an additional ₹13,000. Shortly after, the centre closed, and fraudulent calls from individuals posing as Byju’s employees led to unauthorized transactions totaling ₹1.3 lakh from Yadav’s account.

The case has been registered with Bengaluru’s CEN crime police under the Information Technology Act and BNS Section 318 (cheating). The investigation is ongoing, with suspicions that someone from Byju’s may be involved in the data leak.
