Bengaluru: Fearing another drought-year due to the poor monsoons, the state government decided to seek divine intervention in the matter. In a circular issued on Friday, May 31, the state government directed all the endowment temple priests to hold parjanya homas on June 6 to pray for better rainfalls this monsoon.

As per the Hindu belief, Varuna is the God of rain and the parjanya homas is performed to please him.

All the temple managements have been asked not to spend more than Rs 10,001 for this homa. They are to utilise the fund available in the temple account.

It can be recalled that the state government decided to spend Rs 91 crores on cloud seeding after weather forecasts predicted below average rainfalls during this year’s monsoons.
