Bengaluru: The Srirampura police have filed an FIR against Vishwavani, a Kannada daily for allegedly publishing a fake article on Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy. The FIR was registered based on a complaint filed by a JDS party secretary, who alleged that the article was completely false and that the said article defamed Nikhil’s and his family’s image.
According to a report published by the Deccan Herald, Visheshwar Bhat, the editor of Vishwavani and his staff have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The charges include cheating, intimidation and criminal breach of trust. A notice in this regard was sent by the police to the editor and staff.
Reportedly, Vishwavani published n article about JDS-Congress alliance candidate from the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency Nikhil Kumaraswamy was published on May 25, two days after the announcement of the election results. In the articles, it was alleged that Nikhil got drunk and created a scene at his grandfather, former prime minister H D Devegowda’s residence in Padmanabhanagar. He is reported to have blamed HDD for his failed political career. The article also alleged that Nikhil abused HDD for letting him lose to a woman in their (JDS) bastion.
