Bengaluru: The police have filed an FIR against the producer and director of Sandalwood film, “Ranam” for the death of a woman and child when a cylinder burst on the film set, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, last Friday.

The FIR has been registered against film director V Samudram, producer Srinivas, production manager Kiran, stunt manager Vijayan and other technicians. The FIR states that the stunt manager, Vijayan and his crew did not take proper precautionary measure to avoid any unforeseen incidents.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Kala Krishnaswamy has revealed that the accused are absconding and that the police are trying to trace them. The forensic reports about the canons are awaited, the officer added.

It can be recalled that one of the compressor canons, meant to propel an exploding SUV during the film shoot, flew across the road and hit Sumera Khan (29) and her daughter, Ahera (5), who had stopped to watch the film shoot. They were killed on the spot.

Sumera and her daughter were buried in their native Kolar on Saturday. Sumera’s elder daughter, who was injured in the incident, is being treated for her injuries in a private hospital and her condition is said to be stable.
